Artist's Comments

An attempt of "palaeo-art" applied to a recent scientific paper about Permian therapsids of well-known fossil locality of Karoo, South Africa (though this paper regards the specimens found in Ruhuhu Basin of Tanzania).

Bibliographic reference:

Maisch (2002) - "Observations on Karoo and Gondwana vertebrates. Part 3: Note on the gorgonopsians from the Upper Permian of Tanzania". N. Jb. Geol. Palaont. Mh, 2002 (4): pp. 237-251.

Here I have depicted three notable gorgonopsians of Ruhuhu Basin following skull morphology and adding a bit of artistic licence. The first (from top), Ruhuhucerberus terror (the "fearful Cerberus of Ruhuhu", such an intriguing name...) has been depicted alike a hyaena. Because I like imaginin' this way.
The second, Sycosaurus kingoriensis ("raider reptile of Kingori", I think) resembles a wolverine (I know you're fan of X-Men, but this ain't the case... *lol*), whereas the last and most fearsome is Titanogorgon maximus ("giant king-size fiend"), depicted as a lion-like creeper. With mop of hair too *lol*.

Maybe I should request advanced critique for this piece. Simple comment or suggestion is enough.

amazing art and great names
might send a copy of the article you reference ("Observations on Karoo and Gondwana vertebrates. Part 3: Note on the gorgonopsians from the Upper Permian of Tanzania".)
I would greatly appreciate :)

I will try

Because I can't provide any electronic link. I've just read original paper at athenaeum library.

Se no, è realtà.
